Pichey Rangsey - Dental Reconstruction for Student
Many of you will remember Srey Sro, a student of the 6th Grade at the school who was badly in need of dental reconstruction work. Her personality was clearly affected by the condition of her teeth, reflected in lack of confidence, low academic achievement and often poor health, all of which sometimes kept her away from school.
I am delighted to report that, thanks to the interest and generosity of Chou Nee, a Khmer Dentist in Phnom Penh, her front teeth have been reconstructed. I took Chou Nee out to the school on the 22nd August, where he examined Srey Shro's teeth. He said he could reconstruct them. She was in his surgery the next day. Several visits later and after root canal work, the final bridge was fitted on the 2nd September. The transformation was quite profound. Srey Shro had never been to a dentist before and she proved to be a model patient - not a movement or sound or complaint. Her paretns were there with her throughout and the joy of the final result was quite moving for all concerned!
Chou Nee and the technicians who constructed the multi bridge, most generously gave their services free of any charge.
The reconstruction of Srey Shro's teeth will have a profoundly positive effect on her life.
The next task will be to treat the other 600 students who need basic attention - but that's for another day!
