Melbourne student completes run to raise funds for Mkak

Humanitus received some very inspiring news recently. The initiative of an 8 year old Melbourne student to help SE Asian children less fortunate than her has impressed us beyond words.

Sabine's parents had been trying to find a way to help her understand about, and perhaps develop a way, to help others less privileged. They had been researching the plethora of options available when they happened upon the Humanitus website.

Sabine was eager to contribute in some way to the children that Humanitus work with and came up with the concept of holding a solo run with sponsorship from family and friends. Her trial run was held recently and she covered 2.2 km in about 20 mins. Quite a feat for anyone!

Sabine?s goal for July 14th was to run 3 km in 30 minutes. After lots of training and support from her friends and family Sabine completed her 3km run on Saturday 14th in just 21 minutes.

We are thrilled to announce Sabine has raised $1100 from her run. An extraordinary effort from a young person. Sabine has achieved more from her fundraising initiative than many adults will in a lifetime and we congratulate her on her great work and thank all of those who sponsored her!

Sabine is donating 100% of funds raised towards helping the children at Mkak Primary school in Cambodia. We have spoken with Sabine and her parents about how she would like the money to be disbursed. It was agreed the money raised will pay for resources and outfitting a new library at Mkak Primary School. With this amount of money bookshelves, books and a large reading table and chairs will be provided for the children. The children at Mkak will be made aware that a person their age has achieved all of this for them. They will be overwhelmed when they hear the news.
